Time to get Real

I’m just back from a Pilates class at Real Pilates and am buzzing because it was Fantastic with a capital F.

Here’s why:

I’ve been told time and time again that Pilates compliments running like wasabi does sushi but the few times I’ve gone to a class, I’ve clock-watched from start to finish and found the exercises and the breathing instructions both boring and arduous.

But today was different. So very very different. Real Pilates does exactly what it says on the box; it offers Real Pilates that give people huge improvements in their range of motion, posture, abs strength and posture. It also does wonders for your general self-awareness. The teacher Danielle was fab, the exercises were dynamic and flowing with a backdrop of some very cool tunes and her voice is cathartic and relaxing. And to top it all, I could tell she was working me hard as my thighs were shaking and my abs trembling. (Time will tell how this affects me tomorrow morning as I run 42.2k in the Dubai Marathon!)

Clearly however, I’m not the first person to discover all this as on this Thursday afternoon, the place was a hive of activity and full of über friendly ladies.

I checked out their details afterwards and not only are the classes designed to give you greater flexibility, amongst all the other benefits, but the schedule and fee structure are super flexible too. There’s just no excuse not to check them out.

I met the Real Pilates founder and owner, Reza, as I was leaving … and he was just as warm, friendly and welcoming as the place itself. And now that I’ve done a little research on him, I see he claims to be a great believer that “the purpose of life is a life of purpose” and that couldn’t be truer in my book.

So here’s to Reza, here’s to Real … and here’s to their successful conversion of Tori from a Pilates-phobe to a Pilates-phillia.

Try it yourself …  pure pleasure in the form of Pilates on the Palm Strip, Jumeirah.
