Stretch & respect

Following a fabulous run this morning, pack on back and tunes blaring, I went to the Media Rotana for a yoga session taken by the lovely Christina Jackson. Christina is a friend of mine, an absolute treasure, but this was the first time I’d been to one of her classes … and she was just as great a teacher as she is a girlfriend.

I wrote about my last yoga session recently in Yoga flow … and similarly this was yet another illustration of the wonders that yoga does for your body, mind and soul.

Christina, during the class, made a comment about yoga being about stretching yourself yet in doing so, respecting your body. This, I’ve decided, is a great metaphor to life.

It’s so important to stretch ourselves. Life is terribly short and time so precious that we owe it to ourselves to set and reach our goals and in turn, to realise our full potential … in other words, to stretch ourselves … mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually

But … we must also show respect … not only to ourselves but to those around us. Our bodies are amazing machines albeit. But we only get one so we must look after it, fuel it as best we can, abuse it as little as possible and give it the respect that it deserves.

So from me to you Christina … thanks for a fabulous soul-nourishing class and for reminding me to stretch and respect!
