Row for freedom

This morning I started my day in perhaps the best way possible … with a chatter-infused run in the glorious sunshine with my wonderful friend Katie. Asides from the usual catch-up about work, friends, boys and so on, we talked about goals and working towards them.

Katie used to work in a high-pressured corporate environment. Then, her goals were really focused on her job … reaching targets, training her team, performing her role as best she could. No longer in that environment, she wants to set goals of a more physical, adventurous nature.

My reply?

Give it 110% as it’s these types of goals that are most rewarding … the huge effort required to train, organise and fundraise directly equate to the huge rewards for the taking.

And it turns out that she’s already signed up for an extraordinary (and v v challenging) adventure this December. After the usual typical-Tori barrage of questions, I feel inspired and motivated by the amazing challenge that awaits her and humbled by the incredible funds and awareness that the team will bring to human trafficking.

Intrigued?

  • Katie will take part in the Row for Freedom challenge this December which aims to be the first female crew (of six) to row, unaided, across the Atlantic
  • Rowing from the Canary Islands to Barbados, the trip will take 35-45 days
  • All food and equipment required will be carried with them
  • Despite a team of six beautiful ladies, there will be no home comforts … no bathroom, limited cooking facilities and a sleep space smaller than a single bed
  • They will each be rowing for around 12 hours per day for the duration; the mental and physical strength that this will require is phenomenal
  • All this for what? To bring change to the human trafficking crisis that affects an estimated 27 million people in the world, half of whom are children. This number may just be the tip of the iceberg however

Plenty more to come on this from fit chicks & fast women so watch this space

Meantime, Katie … from me to you … just signing up for a challenge such as this is already a tremendous symbol of your spirit and I can’t wait to share the journey with you … x
