LOVESTYLE divas love any excuse for a party and in Dubai, we are spoilt for choice with fabulous events night after night.  This weekend, of course, was the annual World Cup, so countless belles were dressed up in their foxiest heels and fabulous fascinators to enjoy Meydan in all it’s glory.

But all these parties come with a cost … if you’re not careful. The cost?  Sleep, or lack of …

Did you know that when you’re sleep deprived, you eat almost 300 more kcals a day than you would have had you been well-rested? Plus the foods you’ll probably reach out for are the naughty (but nice) ones.

Researchers have known this for years and countless studies only confirm the theory. In short:

  • Sleep too little and you are far more prone to weight gain and obesity
  • Sleep-deprived women will consume on average 329 more calories (compared to men – 263 more)
  • Most of these extra calories come from high-fat foods
  • The reasons are because sleep deprivation makes you more susceptible to overeating and because it affects your appetite hormones – if sleep-deprived you have higher levels of ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates hunger and lower levels of leptin, the fullness hormone. When tired you are also less motivated to exercise
  • The higher calorie and fat intake combined with being less active are likely to have additional consequences on the body – just imagine the strain put on your heart!

So LOVESTYLE divas, post parties, bear this in mind and try to get a little extra shut-eye during the week.  You’ll then be ready to get your dancing shoes on again in time for another weekend … and you’ll be looking your best and taking care of your heart.  It’s a no brainer surely!
