Running for rants when life is pants …

I ran with a good girlfriend tonight … unplanned and short but required for a friend in need. Why? Because she needed a rant … to let go of the stresses and strains in her life and the hands of cards she’s currently being dealt.

And if a run is sometimes a great release then a run with a friend who cares to listen is the perfect one.

I came home and was reminded of an article I read recently about the five different types of friends we should all have.

Little Miss Agony Aunt

Aka the perfect person to have onboard when facing a crisis. If you need advice or just a listening ear, this is your guy or girl! They will sit and listen to all your problems without passing judgement but they also seem to know exactly when to butt in with advice and the advice they do give is usually peppered with love.

You can call this friend any time day or night with your problems, safe in the knowledge you’re reaching a willing ear who will help you sail effortlessly through life’s crises, without having to paddle alone in the murky depths of despair.

Little Miss Laugh-a-Minute

The life and soul of the party … we all know at least a few of these people – and if you don’t, you should. The laugh-a-minute-mate is that person who never fails to make you laugh no matter what you’re going through.

But while this friend is spontaneous and fun, bear in mind that they may not the best person to go crying to with your problems as they’ll probably be far too busy partying to answer that 3am call. However, a little distraction is often just what the doctor ordered, so if you need to take a break from life’s stresses, give them a call.

Little Miss Honesty

Although complete, uncensored honesty is not always welcome, sometimes it’s necessary if it will only save you further pain along the road. This friend may not always tell you what you want to hear but they will usually tell you what you need to know. And there’s never any malice behind their truthfulness; they are genuinely trying to help.

If you want an honest opinion on how you should deal with a tricky situation or whether that hottie you met at Ladies Night is a loser or a keeper, this is the friend to ask … so long as your ego can take it!

Little Miss Finish-your-Sentences

Sometimes in life you come across a person so completely on your wavelength you could have been separated at birth. Enter this friend – they do exactly what they say on the tin; they know you inside out, you share the same random interests and sense of humour … and they always know exactly what you’re talking about – even when you don’t.

Maybe you’ve known this person for years or maybe you just clicked instantly. Regardless, you feel totally at ease with them and you know that they’re never going to judge what you say – in fact, they were probably just thinking the same thing.

Little Miss Inspiration

Otherwise known as Little Miss Inspiration, this friend makes you feel inspired … and infuriated in pretty equal measures. The likelihood is this friend is thriving in some area in which you feel you’re lacking. So whilst they can definitely be annoying at times, use them to encourage you to reach higher, do better, and live a fuller life  … i.e. use their success to inspire and motivate your own.

The key thing about this friend is that they should never make you feel bad about your own life, but kindly encourage you to make the most of it, all for your own good.

Living in Dubai friendships come thick and fast. But they can also be lost or diluted just as easily.

I’ve been very lucky with my friends here … I have a great handful of people who would drop anything for me. And I them.

Thankfully too, quite a few of them are runners.

Perfect for rants when life gets a bit pants!
