Get Zumba-fied!

Once upon a time, the mere mention of aqua aerobics made me think of purple rinses, thunder thighs and floral swimsuits leaving far too much for the imagination.

But in the last year or so, aqua has become cool again … it’s packed full of ladies of all ages, abilities and fitness levels desperate to reap the benefits of getting fit and staying cool in the pool.

Enter Aqua Zumba then and the entire cool rating goes through the roof!

So yesterday, when Studio Fitness gals, Jessica and Louise, held an Aqua Zumba Launch Party at Media One Hotel, I just couldn’t resist checking it out.

Taught by new-to-Dubai-but-already-taking-the-Zumba-scene-up-a-notch, Rellu, the class follows the traditional Zumba format of Latin moves done to upbeat shimmy-your-hips tunes but performed in the water instead. Thanks to the resistance of the water, you feel like you’re working less but actually you’re working harder whilst you reggae, salsa and merengue the class away.

If you have an injury or joint options, Aqua Zumba is ideal. 

And if, like me, you love being in the water to combat the effects of pounding the pavement or stepping up your land-based cardio, Aqua Zumba is ideal.

And equally, if you just like the sound of some fun in the sun, with beats that are too cool for school, palm trees swaying in the background, a fab atmosphere and then poolside time with the girls, Aqua Zumba is ideal.

Try it.  Shimmy your hips underwater and you’ll be back for more.  I’m sure of it.
