This post is dedicated to Sarah at Fitness First HQ who, like me, is addicted to the choco dates on offer at reception but at 43 kcals per piece, there must be less naughty options when the afternoon snack attacks strike …

And whilst bigger pickers need bigger knickers, sometimes carrot sticks just don’t cut it … and who on earth manages to limit themselves to just 12 almonds when the munchies set in?

Time then to get real.

Time to source some snack attack options that genuinely fill a space in your tummy without filling up space in your knickers.

Top Ten Snacks:

  1. Fruit loaf.  You know that Soreen stuff?  Filling, utterly delicious and surprisingly healthy
  2. Edamame, edamame, edamame
  3. A little pita bread with GRATED CARROT mixed with a SMALL dollop of peanut butter (sounds odd but rather delicious)
  4. Cup of popcorn mixed with some dried fruit (like a grown-up pick n mix)
  5. Home-made pita chips … cut pita bread into triangles, sprinkle with a little parmesan cheese (v high protein) and bake 180ºC 15 – 20 minutes until crisp)
  6. Frozen yoghurt … just by your fav flavours and freeze for a couple of hours.  Muller Light Vanilla, frozen, is one of life’s secret delights … all yours for 150 kcals. (Choithrams btw have Muller Light – just try not to ouch at the pricetag when you know they cost £1 for 4x back home!)
  7. Jelly (sugar-free).  Everyone loves jelly. It’s actually great snack food and making it always brings back fun memories from childhood when ‘making jelly’ constituted as cooking and required a great deal of focus on what seemed like a v complicated recipe!
  8. Dim sum.  Yum yum.  Steamed not fried. Low in fat, low kcal and would definitely make it onto my last supper menu. Buy in the frozen section of all big supermarkets (albeit now quite the same experience as from a hawker stall in Asia)
  9. Fruit lollies … with real fruit instead of artificially-flavoured junk.  Just spear a banana, grapes, peeled oranges or berries on to a bamboo skewer and freeze
  10. Baked apple.  Dice, sprinkle with vanilla or cinnamon, pop into the microwave for one minute, stir then microwave for another 30 seconds.  Melts in your mouth … real comfort food at only 100-ish kcals … what’s not to love?

So there you go Sarah … my top 10 treats, not that your fabulous figure doesn’t suggest you already have quite a few top tricks up your own sleeve …
