You now how sometimes, you bring two minds together and suddenly you have the power of three? Or two hearts and together you are an invincible force? In the same vein, certain foods just aren’t right without their perfect counterpart. Peanut butter in my book is just rubbish without jam. Or strawberries without cream. Or tonic without gin.

Turns out that food combos aren’t just down to our taste and preference though. Just like our minds, they are more powerful when partnered well … which means, if enjoyed together they will in turn, make us lift stronger, jump higher, run faster and so on …

I read all about this yesterday so today, here’s Tori’s low-down on what you need to know:

Food synergy is basically the idea that enjoying two foods together is healthier than eating them alone … it might explain why Italians drizzle cold-pressed olive oil over tomatoes and why the Japanese pair raw fish with soybeans.
