Take 5

grab_LS-cropA Robin Sharma email sat patiently in my inbox this morning and in it, the quotes that changed his life. Made me think. I LOVE quotes and have so many long-held favourites. We should all have certain words that we live by, that inspire and motivate us to be all we want to be, that give us the wisdom, courage, belief and confidence to conquer the world.

And I guess our favourites are likely to change during different times of our lives.  So, I spent some time this morning thinking of the quotes I currently live by.  It’s now the beginning of April, 2013.  How time has flown! It’s been an eye-opening year already. I’ve been working on some awesome work projects, several of which are leading me in different directions, towards unchartered territory to date.  And I’ve learnt a huge amount about myself … how and why I really run, where my skills and talents truly lie and what and who I really want. Sometimes, you need to ask yourself some uncomfortable questions and sometimes you need to get something you thought you wanted, only to realise its just not for you.

The roads we follow lead to nowhere, in that we never stop learning, growing and discovering. And that’s what really makes life such an adventure. That’s what makes us wake up each and every morning with a sense of wonder and anticipation. What do the hours that follow hold for us?

But back to my quotes.  I tried to think what my top five would be … the five quotes I resonate with most right now.  Here they are below.  It’s a fun exercise so find some time to do same … words are powerful. Powerful and wonderful!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” Nelson Mandela

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” Albert Schweitzer

“Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do.” Benjamin Spock

And last but far from least, this little beauty by no other than a beautiful icon, Marilyn Munroe.

“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”

Happy Easter to all.
